How I use social media
If you’re reading this page you’re possibly thinking of following me on Twitter, LinkedIn or Facebook. Here’s how I use them.
- I tweet as @peterfletcher.
- I tweet often, and often in bursts.
- I’m very conversational. Expect an @reply if you say something that’s funny.
- I tweet about social media and real estate. I also tweet other stuff that catches my eye. I can be a bit random.
- I reply to tweets, especially ones that are interesting or heartfelt.
- I re-tweet interesting tweets, ones that I think will be interesting for my followers.
- I tweet links to my own blog posts – not often – but I do. Be so warned.
- I send thank-you messages to new followers via direct messages not into my tweet stream. I sometimes unfollow people who do it the other way round.
- I occasionally use Tweetlater to schedule tweets that I want overseas tweeps to read. I don’t use it to auto-respond to new followers.
- I unfollow tweeps who spam or who just talk about themselves.
- I only follow tweeps who provide a plausible real name. And a photo or avatar. I’ve made a few exceptions.
- I rarely follow tweeps with a disproportionate following/follower ratio. I’m here for the interaction not numbers.
- My Twitter grade is here, Twitter temperature here, and my tweet happiness ranking can be found here
- Would love for you to connect with me on LinkedIn.
- I accept all requests to connect.
- I’m not all that active on LinkedIn but I do respond to direct messages.
- I’m more than happy to provide recommendations for anyone with whom I’ve had a professional association.
- I usually only accept friend requests from people I’ve met face-to-face or had extended communication with via email or phone. It’s a semi-personal space for me.
- I spend a lot of time on Facebook and update my status often.
- I comment on lots of photos and status updates.
- The Real Estate Marketing Maven has a page on Facebook. It contains heaps more “short burst” information.
