Does your social media policy create possibilities?

by Peter Fletcher on June 7, 2009

Even the US Air Force is commited to developing a social media policyI’ve been thinking a lot about social media policy lately. It strikes me there are lots of real estate agents wanting to get involved with social media, but only a few are giving thought to how the culture in their business is going to cope. The ones that do are smart.

Developing a policy that consists of a list of Thou Shall Not’s is easy. But tapping into the power of social media is about looking for possibilities and creating opportunities. And sparking connections and conversations that don’t exist today.

That type of thinking takes effort. But it’s an effort worth making.

I think B.L. Ochman gets the gist of good social media policy just right. It’s about respecting, engaging and being open.

What do you think? What possibility is included in your social media policy?

Thanks Charlie. What makes this system really great is the comments added on Disqus blogs become blog posts in themselves. They have their own RSS feed which can be added to FriendFeed so it builds a richer picture of the knowledge you're creating on the Net.
