Market your brand with Facebook Pages

The Real Estate Marketing Maven Facebook PageI’m talking here about your Facebook page, not your personal profile. Posting real estate and business related information to your personal profile is generally considered poor form. Instead, set up a Facebook page where you can place lots of information about your business and services. Keep in mind that Facebook has a low tolerance for spam so don’t go overboard and abuse the relationships you have with your friends. If you do you may find you’ll get sent to the Facebook sin bin. Sad day.

Here then are 11 ideas to use a Facebook page to promote your business. All but one of them is free.

  1. Add photos of your friends or fans. Tag them.
  2. Change your profile pic. Keep your page fresh.
  3. Find an interesting article and share it on the wall.
  4. Write a short wall article reviewing a conference, breakfast speaker or book.
  5. Send an invite to join your group to some of your friends. Be selective and make sure you’re adding value to their business.
  6. Send an update to your page fans. Facebook has a low tolerance for spam so don’t do this any more than weekly. Even then make sure you’re speaking to the interests of your fans and not talking about yourself.
  7. Write a note. Note’s give you a little more room to say what’s on your mind than a wall post. Wall posts have a character limit whereas notes can include photos and basic HTML.
  8. Add a link to the Links application. It acts kind of like a link roll on a blog.
  9. Send your new fans a thank you message for joining. If they’re not already your friends don’t hit them up to add you as a friend. Get to know them first and allow them to initiate the contact.
  10. Promote your page with an add. Charlie Gunningham from Aussie home loves Facebook ads because they’re so targeted. They’re a marketers dream.
  11. Write a blog post and post a link to it on your wall.

There it is, 11 simple ideas that will help add value to your fans and keep their engagement high. If there’s an idea I’ve missed please share it in the comments below.

  • Thanks Charlie. It's a privilege helping one of the good guys.
  • Spot on Peter - I like the points you make about doing things for the right reason, 'what goes around comes around' etc. To wit, today I spoke on using Social Media to Landlink (real estate marketing group), and gave you a big plug at the end (to this blog in fact) and told them all to read these pages and also buy you a coffee. Meanwhile, unbeknownst to me, you are giving me a plug on this post. QED. Thanks, you practice what you preach, and it's also the way to do social media - me, a complete novice, learning all the time!
  • Great idea Chrisso. I know you had lots of experience with this during the Victorian bushfires. Your updates were just amazing and later analysis of the way new media was being used to help raise money was first rate. For anyone who wants to read Chris' blog it's here.
  • Great Read Peter
Another tip I had discovered was to become involved with worthwile causes. Allow other to see your compassion and opertunities to meet new freinds. Create you own cause.
