This year’s REIWA Christmas cocktail party was a cracker. A live band, plenty of tasty food, and fresh wood-fired pizzas all added to a quality evening. Although numbers were down – only to be expected in a tough market – the atmosphere was first rate. Anne Arnold and the crew at REIWA deserve a big pat on the back.
At a personal level the event was just what I’d hoped for. I met up with lots of my real estate friends who were, as usual, upbeat despite the flagging fortunes of their industry. The cards worked a treat. One lady came and asked me for one – she’d heard about them from someone else. Others said they’d already read my card thanks to someone else. It just goes to show the power of viral marketing. When an idea takes hold it runs wild through a community. And it’s just impossible to control once it starts to spread.
It did make me wonder how agents could use a similar approach to personal marketing. Undoubtedly it would take more effort than the cookie-cutter approach of mass media and letterbox drops. It would also mean taking some professional risks. But I think it would be worth the effort in the long run.
