The latest from Google allows users with a Google account to comment on search results. It’s called SearchWiki. Let’s say you have an interest in dining out. Now when you perform a search Google allows you to make comments on your search results. These comments are visible the next time you do the same search making searching more efficient and meaningful. The same facility lets you re-rank your search results pushing your favourites to the top.
What’s the big deal with this you ask? Simple. Your comments and insights are shared with other Google account holders. They get to see what you’ve said about a website. Of course the reverse is also true. Other people get to comment on your website, on your service, on your listing presentation. Think about it. Thousands of people commenting very publicly about your performance, acting as critics before a customer gets a chance to pick up the phone. Needless to say it makes sense to get all of your friends and customers who have Google accounts to jump on line and say good things about your website and your service. And move it to the top of the pile. Don’t forget to reciprocate.
Google account holders also get to see your Google profile so it’s a good idea to make yours reflect the image you wish to portray. Here’s mine. It’s free marketing and almost certainly assists with Google search ranking.
Google is in the process of rolling out SearchWiki worldwide. It’s a bit like spotting the Phantom. Now you see it, now you don’t. I’ve seen it once. In the meantime go ahead, get a Google account and get the positive word of mouse going before your competitors.
