Getting your site (and blog) found

by Peter Fletcher on December 13, 2008

In a tough market an agent’s website becomes an essential business tool. It provides sales leads, helps sell property, and builds an agent’s profile. So it’s important to maximise the chances of being found. Here are a few ways to increase those chances.

  • Start a blog and link back to your site. Do this regularly. Google loves fresh links.
  • Link back to your site in the text of your blog posts.
  • Set up a LinkedIn profile, YouTube account, Facebook profile and a profile on any other social network you care to join. Link to your site from each.
  • Join Twitter and provide a link there. You’d be surprised at the increase in traffic.
  • Provide an RSS feed on your blog. With a big button. Make it easy for your readers to subscribe.
  • Put your website and your blog address on your cards, email signature, signs. Get it out there.
  • Promote your blog posts in your tweets. Don’t over do it.
  • Post to your blog regularly. Keep those links coming.
  • Comment on other blogs with links back to your site. Or your blog.
  • Integrate your blog in your  website. Plenty of agents aren’t doing this. Yet. Some agents are doing this well.

What are your suggestions?

  • Great info Pete! I also had a look at the agency cite for de freitas&ryan that do blog posts and thought it was fantastic.. wanted to add some kudos on that idea! It really brings their agency to life, none of that "estate agent vs client" feeling, it's real, honest, sleek, fun and keeps interest, definitely something a lot more agents need to look at doing... don't just make the sale... build the relationship!
